There is a vast range of ‘hard’ materials for use in the garden - these photographs illustrate just a small selection.

Long or large patio areas are best designed with the paving joints ‘broken’ as in this garden in Gosforth, which is further broken up with low planters.

Wood...
In sharp contrast is this intimate timber decked area in a small garden in High Spen. Ideal for many uses, with the timber theme continued in the specially designed fence, the seat, table and edging to the planted areas.

Your Ideas...
Our brief for this open plan front garden in a small estate in Prudhoe, was to create a ‘seaside’ theme, to recall many enjoyable holidays spent in that environment. It is invariably better to interpret an idea than simply reproduce it, as in a photograph.
This photograph was taken a day or so after completion. The gravel and bark mulch are underlaid with a permeable membrane which greatly reduces any weed growth, but allows rainwater to disperse.
