It is part of our service never to design a garden without seeing the site, unless specifically agreed to the contrary. Thus every design is unique and personal to each customer, and makes greatest use of any existing natural features, or perhaps other features created on a previous occasion. The examples you see here are of course only a selection, and if we visit you for an initial appraisal we can bring along a variety of designs and photographs for you to examine.

The Garden at Dunston Hospital
Dunston, Newcastle upon Tyne

This site for this garden was approximately 20m x 15m, (22 x 16yds) and consisted of rough grass sloping to the west. It was next to the Hospice unit at Dunston Hospital, beside their conservatory.

The area was transformed into a tranquil, sheltered garden with enclosed seats alongside a generous 2m wide circular path, usable by all but the very infirm, with no steps or steep ramps.

The gentle sound of running water from the millstones, salvaged from the site added to the relaxing atmosphere. The design was conceived to provide attractive views from within the conservatory, even in the depth of winter, with low level bollard lighting on the water and around the garden.
The wide range of plant species were selected for all-year-round colour, and wildlife interest. Already many birds, squirrels and some fox cubs have been seen.
The low-maintenance garden has been widely used and much appreciated by staff and patients alike.

Carefully selected plants, placed in a well considered position can have an instant and dramatic effect. These variegated Phormiums provide all-year-round interest through their colour in the rock and gravel setting.

A Private Garden in Wylam, Northumberland

The part of the garden worked on measured 5m x 11m, and comprised a pair of ponds linked by a small channel, over which a timber bridge gave access to the rest of the garden through an arched trellis.

The customer had constructed a modest pond a few years ago and had gained great pleasure from the wildlife this attracted, as well as the fish and aquatic life introduced to the water. However the pond did little for the overall appearance of the garden, and we were asked to remedy that.

Whilst we were pleased with the results, our customer was delighted, and below is the unsolicited letter we received...

Dear Tony,
Please find enclosed a cheque for £3518.24 which represents the balance for work carried out at the above address.
I would like to thank you for the work you have achieved on my garden. I am elated at the result. It is far better than I ever expected. By all means, feel free to call at any time to take photographs of the finished pond.
I will email you some pictures next year once all the flowers and aquatic plants are in bloom.
It also looks pretty spectacular at night time once all the lighting is on.
Once again, thank you very much for the effort you and your team put into this project.
